典型的歌メロじゃなく、この曲をデビューシングルに持ってくるあたり、流石だなぁと思います。オアシスのときとは違う、ソロらしい曲です。

テレビを見ている。それとも、テレビがおれを見ているのか？
新しい日の始まりとともに、おれたちの死期がやってくる
嵐の雲がおれの魂を吸い取ってるような気がする
いやー……、なんというか、重いというか、曲調もあいまって泣ける曲です（泣いたことはない）。
You and Meと言われると当然リアムとノエル自身のことを指すと考えるわけですが、ノエルはインタビューで以下のように言ってます。
When asked at a press conference whether the meaning of the song was related to the relationship between himself and former bandmate and brother Liam, Gallagher replied that it was based on the saying "If we don't leave this place, it'll be the death of you and me", and that it was "a bit more romantic than that [his relationship with his brother]" and is "a romantic song about ... people escaping the surroundings they're in ... and having a jolly good time and living happily ever after".

「それよりちょっとロマンティックなこと」と含みを持たせて言ってますね。
それでリアムではなく奥さんだとする解釈もあるみたいですが、やはりリアムだと思いたいのがファン心です。ソロ一発目というのもあるし、「潮時」という言葉もオアシスの解散を連想させますからね。
歌詞の英語は全体的にわかりやすいですが、肝心の people who could be the death of you and meとかはちょっとわかりづらい。
"But isn't it a pity that the sunshine is followed by thunder?"
はドキッとしますね。
オアシス時代のSome might sayの初っ端に"Some might say that sunshine follows thunder"という歌詞があるからです。
真逆のことを言ってるわけですから、ソロになってより孤独を歌っているのかなという気がします。ノエルは孤独が似合うし、歌詞にも情緒が増しているような。
あと、最後のサビの盛り上がりと、"I'm watching my TV, or is it watching me?"という歌詞が好きです。なんつうかこうギクッとさせられる。
あとmy mortalityのとこがかっこいい。mortalityという単語が厨二ぽくて好きなのもあるのですが。
あと、
シングルのジャケットが映画館の写真なのですが、上映中のタイトルは、
"It’s never too late to be what U might have been"
とあります。ささりますね、なんか。
これを生で聴けるのは嬉しいですね。ライブまであと２日！
